As a makeup artist, having great skin to achieve your best look is as important as the makeup itself and the tools you use. Maintaining clear, radiant, healthy skin can make you look younger and allows the makeup to enhance your natural beauty instead of covering it. Since I’m acne prone and oily like a soul food cook, the products I’ve chosen work well for me since they address my particular brand of issues. So lets make a start:
Cleansers: I don’t have a ton of loyalty to any one cleanser but I do love the Peter Thomas Roth Glycol Acid 3% Facial Wash and the Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser. The first one is a gentle chemical exfoliating wash and the latter is a more deep cleaning wash that makes my skin feel super smooth.
Toners: Close those pores! The toner I’ve been using lately is the Thayer’s Rose Petal Witch Hazel, it’s gentle, smells good and leaves my skin feeling really refreshed.
Mask: I never hear anyone talking about this mask but its one of the BEST i have ever used! Pur Cosmetics Dirty Girl Detoxifying Mudd Masque with Pascalite Clay has this “squeezing” sensation after it dries that pushes all the crap in your pores out! As a spot treatment, it helps to heal blemishes in a few days!
Makeup removers: I consume a lot of social media and youtube, so when I saw a snapchat of the ever flawless Desi Perkins demonstrating what a beast the Dermalogica PreCleanse was, I knew it had to be mine. This oil remover eats through glitter, waterproof mascara and studio fix fluid like no other! Its a total game changer!
Exfoliators: Even though she’s been around forever it took a while for me to hop on the Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment train but i am so glad I did, its gentle but effective and using in the shower is like a little spa experience in my own bathroom. BUT, if you want “Take NO Prisoners” results, step your game up to the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Daily Peel and get your entire life! This stuff destroys texture on the skin and murders blemishes and fades hyper pigmentation in (on average for me) 8 weeks! I cant say enough wonderful things about it! I even dedicated an entire blog post to it here, because I’m that loyal and dedicated to this product, lol!
Sunscreen: Murad Invisiblur in an invisible sunscreen/primer/moisturizer that makes life so easy for busy people like us that need to get up and out the door fast with minimal steps in-between. Check out my review of this product here.
Moisturizers: Sunday Riley has all my money because Luna Oil is my LIFE!!! I’ve never had really deep wrinkles but the few I was noticing had smoothed and softened and I have this glow to my skin when I wake up in the morning and I find it to be soothing. on the skin when I apply it so this is a winner all around. Also, don’t the the price tag put you off, I’ve had my bottle since the beginning of August 2015 and I still have over half the bottle left!
Tools: My Clarisonic is worth its weight in gold! I love the deep clean I get and the smaller pores! All hail!!
Well, that’s it for my skincare routine, I didn’t include an eye cream because I haven’t found one that I love yet. Please feel free to share your favorite products!
